Lajichephobia refers to the irrational fear of garbage trucks. The term comes from the Chinese word “垃圾” (laji) which means “garbage,” as well as the Greek root “φόβος” (phóbos) which means “fear.”
People who have this phobia report feeling anxiety, unease, disgust, and sometimes panic when seeing garbage trucks in person or in photographs.
People who report having this fear say they are frightened by the intimidating nature of large garbage trucks, particularly their loud noise and the way they mechanically lift garbage cans, pour the trash inside, and crush it in the hopper.
Lajichephobia may be related to the fear of losing control.
Research on this subject is limited, as this phobia is extremely rare and is not often discussed in academic literature.
