The nominees for the 78th Emmy Awards have been revealed. Television Academy hosts Liza Colón-Zayas and Jeff Hiller announced the nominations live today, revealing the shows and performers who made a mark this year.
The HBO medical drama The Pitt led the list with 25 nominations, the most of any series. The show follows ER physician Michael Robinavitch, played by Noah Wyle, as four new doctors join the staff of an underfunded hospital. Since premiering in 2025, the series has drawn strong reviews, with its first season scoring 94% on Rotten Tomatoes’ Tomatometer and its second season 99% as of the time of writing.
Close behind was HBO’s comedy Hacks with 24 nominations, setting a record for most nominations in a single year in the comedy category. The series follows Las Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) and Ava Daniels (Hannah Einbinder), a young comedy writer, as the two work together to help each other’s careers.
At number three was Apple TV’s Widow’s Bay, which picked up 19 nominations. The comedy-horror series follows an island town affected by an old curse that unleashes evil on its residents. The show stars Matthew Rhys, Kate O’Flynn, Kevin Carroll, Dale Dickey, Kingston Rumi Southwick, and Stephen Root.
Streaming platforms had a strong showing this year, with HBO Max, Apple TV, and Netflix all landing multiple nominations across top categories. HBO Max led the list with The Pitt and Hacks at 25 and 24 nominations respectively. Apple TV followed close behind with Widow’s Bay at 19 and Pluribus at 18. Netflix also had a high volume of nominations across many shows, led by the anthology series Beef with 16.

The 78th Emmy Awards will air September 14, 2026 at 5:00 PM, broadcast live on NBC and streaming on Peacock.
