CALIFORNIA – Wildfires continue to intensify in California as temperatures soar across the state. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Los Angeles County, effective from 3:10 AM on June 21 until 8 PM on June 23. Temperatures will range from the 90s to over 100 degrees, with overnight lows only dropping to the 60s and lower 70s, offering some relief.
In Colusa County, firefighters continue fighting the Sites fire which has now burned 19,195 Acres of land.
CalFire provided a status update, stating:
Much warmer temperatures are expected today as temperatures challenge the 100-degree mark across lower elevations of the fire. Temperatures and low relative humidity remain a concern. Crews will continue to reinforce control lines. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in place. Damage inspection teams to continue inspections.
CalFire has deployed 1,939 personnel, 18 helicopters, and 135 engines to fight the blaze. Sites fire is 25% contained as of today, with the cause of the fire still under investigation. Meanwhile, the Post fire which burned uncontrolled in LA county earlier this week is now 61% contained.
Cities are also taking preventative measures to stop fires before they start. Several areas in Glendale continue to remain in Very High Hazard Severity Zones, and the Joshua Tree National Park has issued a fire ban alert, prohibiting all campfires and grill fires until October 1, 2024.
The US Forest Service has also increased the fire danger level at Angeles National Forest from “Low” to “Moderate” on June 4th. CalFire is providing updates on the ongoing fires on X.
