GLENDALE, CA – The City of Glendale will begin enforcing its ban on gas-powered leaf blowers beginning September 1, 2024. Ordinance 6008, first introduced back in 2023, will prohibit the use of gas powered leaf blowers “at any time for any purpose” within the city, and will cite property owners for any violations.
Violations to the ordinance will first result in a warning, followed by fines of $100, $200, then $500 for repeated noncompliance.
Gas-powered leaf blowers have drawn significant criticism from Glendale residents, with common complaints including being woken up early on weekend mornings because of the jet-engine like sounds of leaf blowers outside their windows.
In addition to noise pollution, the city cited large levels of air pollution, risk of hearing loss, and risk of respiratory illness as some of the reasons for the prohibition of the gas-powered leaf blowers.
Although the ordinance was adopted back in August of 2023, the enforcement of the law is set to begin in September of 2024. For more information on the ordinance, visit Glendale’s official Gas-Powered Leafblower Prohibition page.
I’m a single widow who has had my gardener for over ten years. He has a blower he has used for all those years. English is his second language. I told him about the new law. He and I are both unable to understand this new law! He comes on Mondays between 10am and 1pm, never early am or late pm! Please, Glendale, don’t be so hard on gardeners! Laws against noise at early or late hours I understand, but no noise at any time!?!?
