The Glendale Police Department announced on Tuesday that the department will be conducting a driving under influence (DUI) checkpoint at an undisclosed location within the city on Friday, June 21, 2024.
GPD says that drivers charged with a first-time DUI offense face average fines and penalties totaling $13,500 and a suspended license. The specific time and location of the checkpoint have not been revealed. According to GPD,
“DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on data showing incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.”
According to the California Vehicle Code, sobriety checkpoints are legal and drivers must stop and undergo the inspection if driving a motor vehicle and encountering a sobriety checkpoint set up by law enforcement, where there are clear signs and displays indicating that you must stop.
DUI checkpoints have been happening regularly in Glendale, with the most recent one held on April 12, 2024.
