BURBANK, CA – The Burbank Police Department responded to a bomb threat report at Providence High School on Friday, August 16, after a caller claimed to have placed explosives on campus.
In a press release, Burbank PD stated that “On August 16, 2024, at about 12:00 p.m., the Burbank Police Communications Center received a call from an individual who claimed to have placed explosives on the campus of Providence High School, located at 511 South Buena Vista Street.”
No explosives were found and no injuries were reported, according to the press release.
This is not the first time Burbank PD had to deal with a false bomb threat at a Burbank school. On January 18, 2023, the front office of Joaquin Miller Elementary School received a call from a person claiming to have placed a bomb inside the school.
In the press release for the Miller Elementary incident, Burbank PD also stated that:
Occasionally, the Burbank Police Department receives fake emergency calls involving reports of a shooting, stabbing, bomb threat, or other emergencies which are commonly referred to as “swatting” incidents. These calls involve the action of making a prank call to bring about the dispatch of a large number of armed police officers, or Special Weapons and Tactics teams (SWAT), to a particular address. This type of false reporting of an emergency is illegal and extremely dangerous. Fake or prank emergency calls place first responders and members of the public at risk and tie up emergency resources. False emergency calls and hoaxes have resulted in serious injury and even death in the United States.
Anyone with information about the Providence High School bomb threat is asked to contact the Burbank Police Department at (818) 238-3210.
