Military helicopter catches fire, makes emergency landing near I-5 north of Oceanside

USMC helicopter makes emergency landing near Camp Pendleton

OCEANSIDE, CA — A military helicopter belonging to US Marine Corps “experienced an engine fire in-flight” and made an emergency landing near Camp Pendleton by the I-5 freeway north of Oceanside Friday afternoon.

According to a statement by the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, “The aircrew conducted emergency procedures and safely landed the aircraft at a landing zone on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, near interstate 5. Local and Marine Corps emergency responders attended to the scene to extinguish the fire. The crew of four is reported safe with no injuries.”

Oceanside CHP issued a traffic alert for the area, advising caution and expected delays.
