CALIFORNIA – More red flag warnings have been issued across California this week as wildfires continue in Hungry Valley. Several areas within Glendale, including the Verdugo Mountains, San Rafael Hills, Scholl Canyon, and Deukmejian Wilderness Park, remain classified as “Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones,” according to the City of Glendale.
The City of Glendale has modified the CalFire map to show High Fire Hazard Severity Zones, Very High Hazard Severity Zones and Ember Intrusion Zones. If your property is located in any one of these zones you will receive an inspection from the Glendale Fire Department.
Property owners within this designated area are required to maintain a defensible space around their homes by ensuring hazardous vegetation is abated and that all grass, weeds, shrubs and trees are properly maintained.
The fire that is currently raging 60 miles away in Gorman has led to the evacuation of approximately 1,200 residents from Hungry Valley Park and nearby Pyramid Lake. Firefighters continue to battle the blaze that has now consumed over 14,625 acres of land. The fire, currently dubbed the Post Fire, is at 8% containment as of June 17.
CalFire says fire crews are working on carving out defensive lines around the fire, with 1,148 personnel, 7 helicopters, and 114 fire engines mobilized to fight the Post Fire. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
