SACRAMENTO — Governor Newsom’s office announced on Friday the appointment of 15 Superior Court judges across 12 California counties, filling vacancies created by judicial retirements and resignations.
Of the 15 appointees, 12 are Democrats, one is a Republican, and two are without party preference. The lone Republican appointee is Daniel Walters, appointed to the Madera County Superior Court.
Superior Court judges are typically elected by voters at a general election. However, when a vacancy occurs mid-term, the governor can fill it by appointment.
Each position carries an annual salary of $244,727, according to the press release.
